Project Aetaguyod: Livelihood Training on the Use of Solar-Powered Sewing Machine and Dressmaking

 

January 31 – February 1, 2022 Brgy. Banoyo, San Luis, Batangas Ms. Nelda A. Rosima – Head, ESO The project aimed to provide livelihood training programs for the members of the Aeta Community in San Luis, Batangas. It was conducted through the help of the Department of Science and Technology – CALABARZON, YES Club Philippines, Inc. and the Enrique Zobel Technical Center. Through the project, the Extension Services Office Lipa and its partners were able to train 18 members of the community on Dressmaking, as well as provide them units of Solar-Powered and Conventional Sewing Machines.

Operation Shield: Donation of Mini Anti-COVID Kits February 28, 2022 Lipa City, Batangas Ms. Nelda A. Rosima – Head, ESO Operation Shield was conducted by the Extension Services Office, in partnership with JJC Barako Lipa and Pinas Forward, to provide anti-covid kits to workers in public places like public terminals and food courts. They were selected as the beneficiaries for their perceived higher risk of contracting the disease due to their nature of work and their workplace. The primary beneficiaries were food court servers, drivers of public transportations, as well as vendors in public terminals. The activity benefitted at least seventeen (17) people.

Website Development Training for IT Personnel of Municipality of Ibaan: Django Phase I March 12, 2022 Municipal Hall, Poblacion, Ibaan, Batangas Ms. Nelda A. Rosima – Head, ESO;

This activity was conducted as part of the Memorandum of Agreement between the Municipality of Ibaan and of BatStateU Lipa and was the first in the series of training focusing on the use of Django in Website Development. The activity involved faculty members and extensionists from the College of Informatics and Computing Sciences and shall have its Phase II in the second quarter of the fiscal year. The activity was able to train six (6) IT Personnel of the Municipality.

Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog Hindi ka Nag-iisa”: An Emergency Drill and Seminar on Fire Safety and Prevention March 17, 2022 Batangas State University Lipa, Marawoy, Lipa City, Batangas Ms. Nelda A. Rosima – Head, ESO;

Ms. Maricel Lacbay – Head, EMU

In observance of the month of March as the Fire Prevention Month, the Extension Services Office – together with the Extension Coordinator from the College of Engineering and Head of Environmental Management Unit, Ms. Maricel M. Lacbay, as well as the Bureau of Fire Protection of Lipa City – conducted this activity for the employees and students of the BatStateU Lipa. The activity trained the participants on proper actions and reactions in case of fire incidents. The activity saw a total of 100 active participants.

Streamline and Transcend and Effective Process (STEP) Workshop: A Calibration Session of CMCI Focal, Partner SUCs, and Concerned RLAs March 18, 2022 Via Zoom from Batangas State University Lipa, Marawoy, Lipa City, Batangas Ms. Nelda A. Rosima – Head, ESO;

The activity was an 8-hour workshop conducted via Zoom with Ms. Blancaflor P. Arada, Extension Coordinator of CIT, serving as one of the coaches for data collection and pre-validation process. The activity was participated by CMCI Focal Persons, Representatives of Partner SUCs and other Regional Line Agencies. A total of 30 representative participated in the activity.

Spearheaded by the GAD Secretariat, Ms. Richelle M. Sulit, and the Head of Extension Services Office, Ms. Nelda A. Rosima, the activity was conducted with primary objective of informing, engaging, inspiring, and empowering women and girls to be agents of change. The activity was graced by the presence of prominent women of Lipa City as resource speakers including an entrepreneur and former President of a Non-Profit Organization as well as former public servants. The activity was participated by students, faculty members, non-teaching personnel of BatStateU Lipa, and members of the faculty of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.

Gender and Development and Responsible Voting for Probationers, Parolees, and Pardonees March 23, 2022 At Gymnasium, Batangas State University Lipa, Marawoy, Lipa City, Batangas Ms. Nelda A. Rosima – Head, ESO;

The activity Gender and Development and Responsible Voting for Probationers, Parolees, and Pardonees was conducted through the initiative of the Office for Parole and Probation Administration of Lipa City and its Chief Officer Ms. Anelyn B. Arcardo. The activity aimed to provide basic education on Gender and Development as part of the observance of the 2022 National Women’s Month. Secondarily, the activity also provided basic education on responsible voting. The activity was attended by the city’s parolees, probationers, and pardonees. It saw, by the end of the activity, a total of seventy-one attendees including four women.

Webinar for Big Data Analytics for Disaster Response and Recovery March 29, 2022 Via Zoom from Batangas State University Lipa, Marawoy, Lipa City, Batangas Ms. Nelda A. Rosima – Head, ESO;

The activity Webinar for Big Data Analytics for Disaster Response and Recovery was conducted in collaboration with Walailak University’s Center of Excellence in response to the emerging trend of use of Big Data Analytics not only for the business sector but also for pressing global concerns like increasing natural disasters caused by the climate change. The activity was spearheaded by WU’s Dr. Rattikansukha and BatStateU Lipa’s ESO Head, Ms. Nelda A. Rosima. The seminar was led by Dr. Francis G. Balazon, the campus’ expert in Big Data Analytics, as a resource speaker in tandem with Dr. Turner of Thailand, whose research primarily focused on the marine biology and human wastes in oceans. The activity was participated by stakeholders of both universities peaking at one hundred one.

Another seminar on Big Data Analytics and its use for Disaster Management was conducted on March 30, 2022 in partnership with the Core Research Foundation. The activity aimed to provide an avenue for discussion on the use of emerging technologies such as Big Data Analytics in global concerns such as Disaster Risk Management. The activity was participated by sixty-three academicians and researchers from the fields of Information Technology and Communications Engineering.

Consultative Meeting with the LGU of Ibaan, Batangas for Research and Research-based Extension PAPs April 7, 2022 Municipal Mayor’s Office, Poblacion, Ibaan, Batangas Ms. Nelda A. Austria, Head of Research; RDES Staff, and Librarian The consultative meeting with the LGU of Ibaan was conducted jointly by the Research Office and Extension Services of Lipa Campus on April 7, 2022 pursuant to the MOA with the LGU in 2021. It was held to identify the needs for the Cultural Mapping Project requested by the LGU in the MOA. The participants discussed the objectives, scope, agencies involved, output, budget, and duration of the project. The meeting was attended by the ESO Head and Staff of RDES, ESO, Research, and the Librarian and the LGU Representative.

Consultative Meeting between the College of Teacher Education (CTE) and Bolbok Integrated National High School (BINHS) April 8, 2022 BINHS, Bolbok, Lipa City, Batangas Ms. Nelda A. Rosales, Extension Coordinator of CTE; CTE Instructors The Consultative Meeting between the College of Teacher Education (CTE) and Bolbok Integrated National High School (BINHS) was held on April 8, 2022 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at BINHS, Bolbok, Lipa City. It was held to share the results of the needs assessment survey to the principal and teachers of BINHS, draft programs and activities based on the results of the needs assessment and assign focal persons for both parties for line of communication and information dissemination. The activity was participated by seven (7) teachers and principal of BINHS and five (5) representatives from CTE of BatStateU Lipa.

Looking Back, Marching Forward: Recalibrating Minds amidst Global Changes and Crisis April 7, 2022 Held virtually via Zoom; Hosted from BatStateU Lipa Ms. Maria Lourdes Balita, CAS Faculty The activity Looking Back, Marching Forward: Recalibrating Minds amidst Global Changes and Crisis was spearheaded by the College of Arts and Sciences and was held on April 7, 2022. It aimed to raise awareness about the significance of Mental Health during a global crisis and share different challenges and coping mechanisms for Mental Health Problems. It also aimed to empower the beneficiaries for their shared responsibilities towards mental health and promote a mentally healthy society.

Engineering as Nature’s Apprentice: Nature-based Design and Practice April 21, 2022 Held virtually via Zoom; Hosted from BatStateU Lipa Ms. Maricel M. Lacbay, CE Coordinator The activity Engineering as Nature’s Apprentice: Nature-based Design and Practice was spearheaded by the College of Engineering on April 21, 2022 via Zoom. The activity aimed to emphasize the importance of Green Engineering, roles of IEs in preventing pollution, production of environmentally aware IEs, and promote sustainability and minimize pollution risk to the environment. The activity enjoyed the participation of four hundred eighty (480) Industrial Engineers including eleven (11) from other institutions.

The activity aimed to provide a review of basic GAD concepts, mandates, and tools, reorient GFPS members on gender-mainstreaming, and present new issuances from PCW regarding functionality of GFPS. Dimaano, CAS, Coordinator; Faculty Members The activity Give Blood and Keep the World Beating: PEP Talk on Blood Donation and Bloodletting Activity was an annual activity of Batangas State University Lipa and ESO Lipa. This year’s bloodletting activity was held on May 18, 2022 at Gymnasium of BatStateU Lipa with the Theme “Safe Blood Saves Lives”. The activity was held in collaboration with the Philippine Red Cross, Rotary Club Batangas Malarayat, JJC Lipa Barako, and the Philippine Air Force. More than sixty (60) teaching personnel, non-teaching personnel, students, and PAF personnel donated blood during the activity.

The activity aimed to protect the environment, reduce and eliminate waste materials, and create new products that will help the community. SWEEP Phase II: The 5S of Good Housekeeping and Auditing June 8, 2022 Multimedia Room, HEB, BatStateU Lipa Ms. Nelda A. Rosima, Head of Extension Services The SWEEP Phase II: The 5S of Good Housekeeping and Auditing is one of the activities spearheaded by the HRMO Lipa and jointly implemented with GAD and ESO. It was held on June 8, 2022 in BatStateU Lipa and was participated by the teaching and non-teaching personnel of Lipa Campus. It aimed to help maintain a sustainable and eco-friendly campus through the introduction of 5S of Good Housekeeping.

Correspondence: A Seminar-Workshop in Writing Using a Gender-Fair Language June 10, 2022 Multimedia Room, HEB, BatStateU Lipa Ms. Richelle M. Sulit, GAD Secretariat The activity Correspondence: A Seminar-Workshop in Writing Using a Gender-Fair Language is a joint activity between the ESO, GAD, and HRMO and was held on June 10, 2022. It aimed to strengthen the campaign on gender sensitivity through the introduction of good technical writing for the non-teaching personnel of BatStateU Lipa. The activity also provided tips for quick, clear, and concise presentation of technical information in correspondence, and helped the participants review basic English grammar rules and gender-fair language. It was participated by thirty (30) Job Order personnel of Lipa Campus.

Malvar Senior High School Students’ Training and Workshop for Basic Filmmaking June 16, 2022 Malvar SHS, Poblacion, Malvar, Batangas Ms. Nelda A. Rosima, Head of ESO; Mr. Glenn G. Dimaano, CAS Coordinator The activity Malvar Senior High School Students’ Training and Workshop for Basic Filmmaking was spearheaded by the College of Arts and Sciences and was held on June 16, 2022 at Malvar SHS, Poblacion, Malvar, Batangas. It aimed to facilitate the development and distribution of high-quality content, including narrative and experimental films, strengthen BatStateU’s role as an essential local and regional institution and content provider, and support the development and distribution of these contents. It was participated by thirty-six (36) participants including twenty-four (24) Malvar SHS Students.

Basic Bookkeeping and Accounting for Non-accountants: Training Workshop June 18, 2022 Held via zoom; Hosted from BatStateU Lipa Mr. Elvis B. Lumanglas, CABE Coordinator; Asst. Prof. Arnold Q. Malaluan, CABE Faculty and Trainer The activity Basic Bookkeeping and Accounting for Non-accountants: Training Workshop was spearheaded by the College of Accountancy, Business, and Economics through the initiative of one of its faculty members, Asst. Prof. Arnold Q. Malaluan. It was held on June 18, 2022 via Zoom and was participated by twenty (20) employees of different government agencies. The activity aimed for the participants to gain an understanding of basic accounting concepts, procedures and processes, learn actual applications of said concepts, procedures and processes, and appreciate and know their importance.

Orientation on Cultural Mapping: The Scoping and Negotiation Phase June 23, 2022 Municipal Boardroom, Municipal Building, Poblacion, Ibaan, Batangas Engr. Leoven A. Balazon, CICS Faculty Researcher; Researchers; RDES and OC Staff; and Librarian The Orientation on Cultural Mapping: The Scoping and Negotiation Phase was conducted last June 23, 2022 in the Municipal Boardroom, Municipal Building, Ibaan, Batangas. It was spearheaded by the LGU of Ibaan and was facilitated by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA). The activity was participated by LGU representatives, DepEd representatives, and BatStateU representatives. The main objective of the activity was to introduce the participants to the Cultural Mapping Program of the NCCA, identify the scope of the Cultural Mapping of Ibaan, sign the MOU between Ibaan and NCCA, and guide the agencies involved to the different phases and stages of the project.

Project Habing Ibaan: Capacity Building with Focus Group Discussion June 28, 2022 Sitio Sta. Maria, Munting-Tubig, Ibaan, Batangas Ms. Nelda A. Rosima, Head of ESO; Ms. Richelle M. Lumanglas, CABE Coordinator Project Habing Ibaan: Capacity Building with Focus Group Discussion is a research-based extension activity spearheaded by the Extension Service Office for its adopted Municipality of Ibaan. The activity was held on June 28, 2022 and was participated by university extensionists with twenty-four (24) beneficiaries from the local weaving industry of the municipality. It aimed to assess the social and economic conditions of the weavers, identify market-related problems, determine programs and policies implemented for the weavers, and determine other related challenges and opportunities faced by the weavers.

Project Aetaguyod: Livelihood Training on Reusable Bag and Mini Tote Bag Making is one of the four extension activities implemented for the Aeta community of San Luis, Batangas from July 25 – 26, 2022. This livelihood training was primarily focused on augmenting the source of income for the Aetas through mini tote bag and reusable bag making. Although part of a series including outreach activities, this livelihood training is part of the larger livelihood training and capability-building project started in January of this year through Project Aetaguyod: Livelihood training on the use of Solar-Powered Sewing Machine and Dress Making. This project’s inception was the result of the needs assessment conducted in 2021 in partnership of DOST Batangas.

Ramirez Project Aetaguyod: AKBAY (AKay pagsulat pagBasa AetaguYod and Pagasa) Program is one of the two outreach activities in the four-part extension project implemented in the Aeta community of San Luis, Batangas from July 25 – 26, 2022. This outreach activity primarily aimed to provide basic literacy support to the Aeta youth as revealed by the needs assessment survey conducted in the community a year before. This was spearheaded by the College of Teacher Education of Lipa Campus.

Malaluan, Mr. Rey Anthony Abing Project Aetaguyod: Financial Literacy and Basic Bookkeeping Training is an extension activity implemented for the Aeta community in San Luis, Batangas on July 26, 2022 as part of the four-part extension project. It is part of the larger livelihood project that aimed to augment the source of income of members of the Aeta community and achieve sustainability through knowledge of basic financial management and bookkeeping. Ramirez Project Aetaguyod: Childhope’s Advocacy to Address Food Insecurity and Hunger for Aeta Community is an outreach activity conducted on July 26, 2022 for the underserved community of Aeta in San Luis, Batangas. It is one of the four extension activities conducted in the community from July 25 – 26, 2022. This outreach primarily aimed to address the nutritional and health concern on the younger and older population of the community as revealed by the needs assessment conducted in 2021. Its success can be attributed to the efforts of the College of Teacher Education and of its many partner agencies in JJC Lipa Barako, DOST, LGU of San Luis, YES Club PH, ENZOTech, and PAF 3rd ARCEN.

Sulit ENGAGE 2: Training Workshop on GAD Planning and Budgeting is part of a series of GAD-related trainings for the GFPS members in Lipa Campus. It was implemented on August 17, 2022 in Lipa Campus for the purpose of training and preparing the GAD plan and budget. The activity was conducted for 8 hours including a workshop in the afternoon, which produced the GAD plan and budget for the campus.

Cultural Mapping Phase II: Social Preparation is second in the multi-phased cultural mapping project of Lipa campus for the Municipality of Ibaan, Batangas. Phase II is conducted on August 18, 2022 in Ibaan, Batangas. It was participated by teachers from DepEd, social workers from DSWD, and local officials representing the various smaller local government units of the municipality. Aside from these participants, the youth and youth leaders also participated creating very diverse team composition of cultural mappers. This phase focused on the identification of steps and process in cultural mapping as well as plans for team composition, team assignment, and assignment to mapping locations.

Clean-up Drive: Kalinisan Tungo sa Isang Ligtas na Pamantasan is a climate action-related activity conducted in partnership with the campus’ EMU and GSO on August 20, 2022 in Lipa Campus. The activity aimed to engage volunteers in the community for actions towards care of the environment and mitigation of effects of climate change. The activity was divided into two parts: the first was dedicated towards orientation and seminar while the second part was dedicated towards the clean-up of the surrounding area of the campus.

Lumbera Project MUFAI: 1st Monitoring of Progress of Ginger Brew and Turmeric Brew Livelihood Program is conducted for the monitoring of progress of Project MUFAI, the flagship extension project implemented through the fiscal year 2021. This monitoring was conducted on August 26, 2022 at Brgy. Nasi, Rosario, Batangas. The monitoring found minimal problems in relation to the project. Two of the most significant problems indicated in the report was the location of the facility having been built in a private property and the lack of and difficulty in attainment a business permit or license for MUFAI.

Chili Milling Machine for Dagatan Family Farm School Technology Transfer Phase I: Technology Design, Development, and Testing Webinar August 31, 2022 Via Google Meet Atty. Alvin R. Arada Chili Milling Machine for Dagatan Family Farm School Technology Transfer Phase I: Technology Design, Development, and Testing Webinar is the first of five-part series for transfer of a chili milling machine to the Dagatan Family Farm School in Lipa City. Phase I was conducted on August 31, 2022 via Google Meet. Participants were the target end-users of the technology including students and faculty of the school. This phase was particularly targeted towards the introduction of the technology to its end-users including its design, development, and testing.

Malaluan; Mr. Rey Anthony Abing Project Aetaguyod: Empowering Men Thru Livelihood Training on Bamboo Handicraft Making is a 4-day livelihood training conducted from September 6 to 9, 2022 for the Aeta community of San Luis, Batangas. Although targeted towards male members, the activity was also participated by female members of the community. It aimed to provide another viable and sustainable source of income for the community. Considering the availability of bamboo in the area, the campus deemed it to be the best product to achieve income augmentation and support. Like the livelihood trainings for women of the community, this activity was supported by DOST Batangas and Rotary Club Batangas Malarayat.

YOUTHnity: Kapit-Bisig para sa Kaalaman at Kalusugan ng Kabataang Mag-aaral is an outreach spearheaded by the College of Teacher Education of the campus on September 16, 2022 at BINHS, Bolbok, Lipa City. It aimed to provide essential health and safety kits to students of BINHS who are returning to school after the implementation of limited face-to-face classes. It benefitted 28 public school students through the help of partners from JJC Lipa Barako, Pinas Forward, Rotaract Club, and the Student Organization AFEG of CTE.
