Batangas State University forged a new partnership with the Malaysia Institute of Supply chain Innovation (MISI) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in a virtual ceremony on September 18, 2020.
BatStateU President Dr. Tirso Ronquillo and Prof. Dr. David Gonsalvez, CEO and Rector of MISI, led the signing ceremonies. Dr. Kristoffer Conrad Tejada, BatStateU VP for External Affairs and ICT, and Dr. Sabariah Jemali, MISI Academic Registrar, served as witnesses.
The MOU includes academic cooperation through faculty exchange, student exchange, collaborative research projects, and other mutually beneficial activities. Specific research projects on supply chain in the ASEAN region, e-commerce, and mobility amidst the global pandemic have already been explored. Initially, all partnership activities will be conducted virtually until such time that travel restrictions in both countries have been lifted.
The Malaysia Institute for Supply chain Innovation is the fourth center in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) – Global SCALE (Supply Chain and Logistics Excellence) Network, an international alliance of leading edge research and educational organizations, dedicated to the development and dissemination of global innovation in supply chain and logistics. The institute was launched as a joint initiative between the MIT and the government of Malaysia in 2011.
This is the first time for BatStateU to facilitate a partnership entirely virtually. The virtual MOU signing ceremony was also participated in by Dr. Jessie Montalbo, Dean of the BatStateU College of Engineering, Architecture, and Fine Arts, and Engr. Edzel Gamab, External Affairs Director. For MISI, Dr. Shardul Phadnis, Research Director and Dr. David Stewart, their Academic Director, joined the ceremony.
