2018 TAIWAN EDUCATION FAIR

Batangas State University (BatStateU) hosted the first ever Taiwan Education Fair on August 22, 2018 at the Gov. Feliciano “Sanoy” Leviste Multipurpose Memorial Gymnasium, BatStateU Pablo Borbon Main I, Batangas City. Different Taiwan universities showcased their programs, projects, services and best practices relevant to student and faculty development. Among the participating universities include National Taiwan Normal University; National Tsing Hua University; Chihlee University of Technology; National Chiao Tung University; National Formosa University;  National Taiwan University; Minghsin University of Science and Technology; Tzu Chi University of Science and Technology; National Yunlin University of Science and Technology; Tzu Chi University; Fu Jen Catholic University; I-Shou University; China Medical University; National Dong Hwa University; WuFeng University; Kaohsiung Medical University; Chung Yuan Christian University; Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan (FICHET); and National Sun Yat-sen University.

2018 ASEAN CONFERENCE AND EXPOSITION ON DISASTER RISK MANAGEMENT AND CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION (ACEDRMCCA)

The ACTION Center or Adaptive Capacity-building and Technology Innovation for Occupational Hazards and Natural Disasters Center of Batangas State University (BatStateU) in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and National University of Kaohsiung, Taiwan (NUK) hosted the 2018 ASEAN Conference and Exposition on Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation (ACEDRMCCA) on July 25-27, 2018 with the theme, “Converging with the ASEAN Community in Managing Disaster Risks and Climate Change for a Resilient Community”. The event was held at BatStateU Pablo Borbon Main I, Batangas City, Batangas. DRM officials, personnel, researchers and academicians convened to explore the recent developments, pragmatic solutions, and effective application of science and technology innovations in climate change adaptation and disaster preparedness and response.

SEMINAR ON INNOVATIVE UNIVERSITY GOVERNANCE WITH DR. TIM WU

Dr. Tim Wu, the Executive Director of Edu-Connect Southeast Asia Association in Kaohsiung, Taiwan served as the resource speaker of the seminar on Innovative University Governance on July 9, 2018 held at the Lecture Room, CITE Bldg. Pablo Borbon Main I.  The speaker shared his advocacy of building “Industry, City, University Entrepreneurship” linkages and taught them on how to create the proper mentality in achieving good governance. Senior and junior officials attended the event.

SIGNING OF MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN BATANGAS STATE UNIVERSITY AND SHANGHAI UNIVERSITY OF ELECTRIC POWER AND SHANGHAI ELECTRIC POWER CONSTRUCTION COMPANY

To strengthen its academic consortium between various international academic organizations and institutions, Batangas State University, Shanghai University of Electric Power (SUEP) and Shanghai Electric Power Construction Company (SEPC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on July 9, 2018 at the Function Hall, 7th Floor, CIRTC Building, BatStateU Pablo Borbon Main I, Batangas City. The partnership intends to provide opportunities for faculty members and students to actively participate in educational programs and practices among the three organizations in the areas of academic, administrative and professional development. The scope of activities indicated in the MOU includes, exchange of students for study and training programs, exchange of staff for research, lecture and discussion, exchange of academic information, research publication and other     resources, enrolment of suitable qualified students into appropriate programs for both undergraduate and postgraduate study, joint staff development programs, shared curriculum development activities, collaborative research, joint laboratory, internship/OJT (On Job Training) of the students, and employment of graduates.

SEMINAR OF DR. SATOSHI KUBOTA FROM KOCHI UNIVERSITY IN JAPAN

Dr. Satoshi Kubota from Kochi University in Japan conducted a lecture on Marine Science last March 8, 2018 at the Multimedia Room, 7th floor, CIRTC Building, BatStateU Pablo Borbon Main I. Selected students from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) and faculty members were invited to attend and learn from Dr. Kubota’s presentation on the Recent Coral Research Projects in Kochi University and its Facilities for Marine Research.

SINGAPORE POLYTECHNIC’S LEARNING EXPRESS program

As part of Singapore Polytechnic’s (SP) General Education Program, its students underwent an Overseas Social Innovation Project with their BatStateU counterparts through SP’s Learning Express (LeX) Program on March 13-22, 2018. The 10-day program allowed the students to engage in livelihood and volunteer programs that enabled them to address the needs in the local communities while developing their academic skills using the Design Thinking Methodology. The participants were able to visit the communities in Brgy. San Gregorio, Malvar, Batangas, Brgy. Catandaan, Nasugbu, Batangas, and Brgy. San Isidro, Rosario, Batangas where they conducted interviews, created a persona and craft persona’s needs statement and project statement, validated insights and needs, developed concepts, and co-created solutions to address the needs of communities using existing prototypes.

TAIPEI ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL OFFICE (TECO) PHILIPPINES

Batangas State University hosted the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) meeting with the Region IV-A State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) Presidents, National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) 4A Regional Director, and Philippine Society for Public Administration (PSPA) University of the Philippines-National College of Public Administration and Governance (UP-NCPAG) Executive Director at the 7th Floor of the CALABARZON Integrated Research and Training Center, BatStateU Pablo Borbon Main I on January 5, 2018. The meeting aimed to provide more scholarships, specifically for Filipino faculty members, to be able to pursue their higher studies in Taiwan universities. TECO Director, Mr. Jerry Chuang, elucidated TECO’s Scholarship Program Offerings that according to him are intended for Filipinos who wish to pursue graduate school studies in Taiwan or for those who are willing to learn the Mandarin Language in the Republic of China. The said scholarship offerings include three programs, (1) Ministry of Education (MOE) Scholarship, (2) Huayu (Mandarin) Enrichment Scholarship and, (3) International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF). Present during the meeting were PASUC and BatStateU President Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, TECO Executive Assistant, Mr. Renzo Ramos, NEDA 4A Regional Director Mr. Luis Banua, PSPA UP-NCPAG Executive Director, Ms.Lizan  E. Perante-Calina, PSPA UP-NCPAG Professors, Dr. Alex Brillantes and Mr.Danilo Dela Rosa Reyes, Southern Luzon State University President, Dr. Milo O. Placino, Cavite State University President Dr. Hernando D. Robles, University of Rizal System President Dr.Marita R. Canapi, and Polytechnic University of the Philippines President and Dr. Emanuel C. De Guzman.

SPECIAL INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT DELEGATE OF THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT OF BATANGAS CAPITOL

To foster collaborations and partnerships with different stakeholders, Batangas State University welcomed representatives from the Special International Investment Delegate of the Provincial Government of Batangas Capitol on January 5 at the Lecture Room, International Affairs Office, 2nd floor, CITE Building, BatStateU Pablo Borbon Main I.The delegates consisted of officials from both local and international institutions. They were Mr. Hans Tan of 3F Summit Investment and Management Inc., Ms. Wang Jing of Mind and Mettle International Education Group (Singapore), Mr. Charles Cheng of Golden International Holdings (Singapore), Mr. Louis Shi of Lean Finder Consulting (Singapore), Mr. Yang Xian Zheng of Heayi Cultural and Creative Co Ltd (Italy), and Mr. Mike Guzman of Kaisa Heritage Center (Philippines). As discussed, the possible collaboration will allow the University and its partner institutions to strengthen the conduct of international exchange programs which are catered to the faculty members, graduates, and students. These include employment of licensed BatStateU teachers who can teach English to Chinese students. In addition, the hired teachers will be learning Mandarin during their stay.

SINGAPORE POLYTECHNIC – LEARNING EXPRESS PROGRAM

Singapore Polytechnic (SP) invited Batangas State University to be a partner in a Social Innovation Project (SIP) named Learning Express – Batangas in partnership with the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC). LeX projects aim to help three (3) local communities so that their local needs shall be addressed through the outcomes or solutions conceived by the LeX Batangas. BatStateU LeX Team composed of Dr. Vanessah V. Castillo, Engr. Edzel M. Gamab, Dr. Romel U. Briones and Asst. Prof. Armando V. Mendoza, Jr., attended a three day Design Thinking Seminar-Workshop on April 4 to 7, 2017 at Singapore Polytechnic.

OCEAN UNIVERSITY OF CHINA FORGES COLLABORATION WITH BATANGAS STATE UNIVERSITY

Delegates from Ocean University of China paid a visit to Batangas State University on April 18, 2017 to discuss possible collaboration and tie ups. As discussed, the partnership will focus on promoting Chinese language and culture through cultural exchange programs. The visit also opened opportunities for research studies on marine biodiversity.
