Strategically located at the BatStateU Aboitiz LIMA Campus and surrounded by innovation-driven industries, CAIST leads the integration of AI across education, research, governance, and public service, anchored on the BatStateU AI Strategy 2025.
Research Thrusts
CAIST redefines AI not merely as a tool, but as a catalyst for reimagining higher education, empowering communities, and delivering societal impact. Through its interdisciplinary programs and research thrusts, CAIST serves as a platform for cutting-edge research, real-world applications, and talent development—turning vision into action across the following thematic research thrusts:
1. EduTech: Revolutionizing Education through AI-Powered Learning Systems
CAIST’s EduTech research thrust is dedicated to transforming the educational experience through AI and data-driven innovation. It envisions an intelligent learning ecosystem that supports student success through personalized academic guidance, adaptive assessments, and data-informed teaching strategies.
Projects under this thrust are designed to enhance student learning outcomes by integrating real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, and smart interventions. These systems empower educators and learners alike, making education more responsive, inclusive, and impactful.
2. EnviTech: Smart Environmental and Utility Management for Sustainable Campuses
EnviTech initiatives harness the power of IoT technologies and AI-enabled digital twins to optimize campus operations and environmental stewardship. By creating digital replicas of physical systems—such as water distribution, energy grids, HVAC, and air quality sensors—this research thrust enables continuous monitoring, analysis, and decision-making.
The system provides real-time insights that support energy efficiency, early fault detection, and evidence-based sustainability interventions—turning BatStateU campuses into living laboratories for smart infrastructure and environmental innovation.
3. AgriTech: Smarter Agriculture through AI, IoT, and Precision Farming
CAIST’s AgriTech research thrust is committed to advancing agricultural productivity and climate resilience through cutting-edge technologies. Integrating sensor networks, drone imaging, and AI-powered analytics, the system enables real-time monitoring of soil health, crop status, pest activity, and weather dynamics.
Actionable insights help optimize irrigation, fertilizer use, and harvest scheduling—resulting in improved yields, reduced input waste, and more resilient farming systems. It also fosters community engagement through pilot farms and supports agripreneurship among students and rural stakeholders.
- EnergyTech: AI-Driven Solutions for a Sustainable Energy Future
The EnergyTech research thrust develops intelligent energy systems that integrate AI, smart grids, and renewable technologies to support the University’s clean energy transition. It features a centralized platform for monitoring and optimizing energy production, distribution, and consumption across campuses and partner communities.
With capabilities in load forecasting, anomaly detection, and automated energy balancing, the system facilitates cost reduction and carbon footprint minimization. The platform also serves as a testbed for research in energy informatics, power electronics, and smart systems engineering.
- FinTech: Accelerating Financial Innovation through Intelligent Systems
CAIST’s FinTech research thrust explores the transformative potential of AI in financial services and economic inclusion. Focus areas include algorithmic trading, digital payments, fraud detection, credit scoring, financial literacy tools, and decentralized finance (DeFi). By leveraging big data, machine learning, and blockchain technologies, FinTech projects enable secure, efficient, and transparent financial solutions for individuals, enterprises, and underserved communities.
