World Engineering Day 2023

UNESCO proclaimed World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development during its 40th General Conference in 2019, designating March 4th of each year starting 2020 as an international day to celebrate engineers and engineering. This annual observance is an opportunity to showcase the achievements of engineers and their essential role in modern society, particularly in sustainable development. March 4th also marks the founding day of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), which represents national and international engineering societies worldwide.

The celebration of World Engineering Day (WED) aims to raise awareness of engineering's critical role in achieving sustainable development and encourage action among governments, civil society, public and private sectors, schools, universities, and citizens. It provides a platform to promote engineering as a career and encourages the development of strategic frameworks and best practices to implement engineering solutions for sustainable development.

Particularly significant for developing countries, where access to basic human needs such as clean water, sanitation, and reliable energy is limited, WED also addresses challenges related to climate change, environmental issues, and emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, particularly in growing cities worldwide.

It is an opportunity to inspire young people to pursue engineering careers and use their skills to make a positive impact on the world.

As a leading institution in engineering education, Batangas State University, now The National Engineering University, joins the celebration of WED 2023. A salute to this year’s global theme “Engineering Innovation for a More Resilient World,” BatStateU The NEU banners its local theme: “Leadership in Collaborative Innovations for a Stronger Nation.”

The theme underscores the importance of collaboration and leadership in driving innovation and addressing the challenges facing society today, and BatStateU The NEU takes this opportunity to highlight its commitment to national leadership in engineering and engineering education.
