Programs, Projects and Activities (PPA)
Capability Building (Training on GIS Mapping) Smart Analytics and Engineering Innovation Technical Assistance and Advisory Services Project LARGA Mabini is a university-wide extension service activity of the university focusing on the rehabilitation of the entire municipality of Mabini. It includes Needs Assessment, Technology Transfer thru development of SIGAW Units, SMART Analytics thru Geo-hazards mapping, Stress Management, and DPR CCA Capability Building. This social gathering is held to further strengthen the ties between Batangas State University and Singapore Polytechnic International where students from both institutions team up to render their services to their respective adopted barangays. Learning Express is a great avenue where participants can develop empathy and make meaningful memories with the people that they are with. This could also help participants build life-long friendships and gain new skills through outreach activities. Each team will get to work with an adopted community as they integrate their skills in the use of Design Thinking Methodology to come up with innovative solutions that would greatly help in meeting the needs of the local community. The participants will get immersive experiences as they work together with their peers and develop a sense of purpose through social contributions to the society. Through Learning Express, the teams get to interact with the different cultural structures and norms or the community and expand their views regarding the world they live in. Technology Transfer, Utilization and Adoption Program Luntian Marketing Multi-Purpose Cooperative is one of the suppliers of coconuts here in the Philippines which is located at Lipa City, Batangas. The end user supplies fresh coconuts everyday in hotels and other establishments. 12,000 of coconuts are being produced in the farm every month. This extension project aims to reduce the waste coconut husks in their farm as it adds to their income. Batangas State University is mandated to perform extension functions to provide scientific technological services to the constituents of Batangas Province and recognizes the need to strengthen its services and network to Local Government Units (LGUs) and private agencies to make functional its goals in development, research and extension services. BatStateU conducted research on the development of SIGAW or Solar Powered Isotropic generator for Acoustic Wave as part of the Wireless Integrated Solutions for Emergency Response (WISER). SIGAW, which is a Filipino word for scream or shout, serves as a tsunami early warning system for seaside communities.
IRCIEST 4.0
Batangas State University hosted the 4th International Research Conference on Innovations in Engineering, Science and Technology or the IRCIEST 4.0. Bearing the theme, “Disrupting the World through Innovation and Collaboration,” the three-day activity served as a significant gathering of science and engineering professionals and academicians in the country and in other parts of the world who took part in the conference as plenary and master class speakers, paper presenters and participants. Students from different academic institutions in CALABARZON also took part in the conference, particularly in the pitching competition. Significant parts of the event included a series of plenary sessions, master classes, forums, paper presentations, the Industry Exhibit and Startup Showcase, and the Regional Pitching Competition. The plenary and masterclass sessions both served as international platforms for in-depth discussions on the most innovative technologies, trends and practices in specific disciplines along the areas of engineering, science and technology through intensive lectures by invited local and international speakers.
The first Knowledge, Innovation and Science Technology (KIST) Park launched
BATANGAS CITY. History was made as Batangas State University officially launched the country’s first Knowledge, Innovation and Science Technology (KIST) Park. In the morning of July 20, 2020, high-level officials gathered to commemorate the milestones that place BatStateU at the forefront of national development. The ceremonial launch highlighted the Presidential Proclamation No. 947, s.2020, designating BatStateU KIST Park as a Special Economic Zone, presented by Atty. McJill Bryant Fernandez, Deputy Executive Secretary for General Administration Office of the President, Malacañang. Subsequently presented was the PEZA Certificate of Registration. In her congratulatory message Director General BGen. Charito Plaza underscores their mission of propagating different types of economic zones nationwide especially in the countryside. “So we can spread not just investments [but also] jobs, technology, and attain total development for the country,” she adds. In his keynote address, Sec. Ramon Lopez of the Department of Trade and Industry expressed his gratitude to BatStateU under the leadership of its president Dr. Tirso Ronquillo for being a key partner of the government in fostering industry-academe linkages, knowledge and technology transfer, and promoting the commercialization of innovations. “The KIST Park will help catalyze industrial productivity and increase the economic growth of CALABARZON. This strong collaboration between government, industry, and academe is central to our inclusive innovation industrial strategy,” says Sec. Lopez. With the theme: “Towards a New Frontier of Knowledge-building and Innovation in Science & Technology,” the event was graced by DOST Sec. Fortunato dela Peña, Batangas Governor Hermilando Mandanas, and Batangas City Mayor Beverley Dimacuha. Representing the private sector were SEIPI President Dan Lachica, and IBPAP President & CEO Rey Untal. The virtual launch was attended by 79 guests on Zoom, with 751 viewers streaming on Facebook Live. A press conference was held after the ceremony, where BGen. Plaza and President Ronquillo responded to questions from guests and members of the press. Now open for business, the BatStateU KIST Park spearheads a long-term vision for “state universities and colleges in the Philippines [to] expand their programs for industry, academe, market synergy, technopreneurship, [innovation-based] business incubation & acceleration, and knowledge co-creation in science and technology,” states Tirso Ronquillo, who is also the President of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC). Batangas State University is a Level IV state university in the CALABARZON region, and the only SUC in the country accredited by the US Accrediting Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) for its Engineering and Information Technology programs. It is rated 3 stars in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) list of top universities.
