Dr. Peter Laszlo, a Rector’s representative of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences paid a social visit to Batangas State University, The National Engineering University (BatStateU-The NEU) to discuss the possibility of collaborations on academic, research and extension, February 3. The delegation was led by Dr. Laszlo and Ms. Anna Ramilo, Executive Assistant to the Head of the Commercial Section Embassy of Hungary Manila, and was cordially welcomed by University President, Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo. During their visit, they held discussions with Atty. Noel Alberto S. Omandap, Vice President for Development and External Affairs, Dr. Teodorica G. Ani, Director of External Affairs, accompanied by BatStateU Lobo Director Dr. Romel U. Briones, and Director of Research, Dr. Rosenda A. Bronce. They exchanged viewpoints and concepts for future research partnerships in organic farming, food processing, irrigation, and technology transfer. Scholarships for faculty members were also discussed in furthering the University’s goals of providing high-quality education and cutting-edge research opportunities. “This visit has created the groundwork for a long-term and mutually beneficial partnership that will pave the way for greater advancements in the field of agriculture and education in the Philippines,” Dr. Ronquillo said.

Embracing the new recurring theme from 2023 to 2028: “WE for gender equality and inclusive society” which is both a positive affirmation and a call to action, it emphasizes the idea that growth must be inclusive and that the environment we are building must provide equal opportunities to all Filipinos. This March, through the initiative BatStateU Gender and Development (GAD) Advocacies Office, the University’s Women and Everyone join the pursuit of gender equality.
Filipino students dominate International stage and claim Victory at IPFEST Indonesia 2023

BATANGAS CITY – Batangas State University, The Philippines’ National Engineering University has once again made their mark on international stage as a team of BS Petroleum Engineering students raised our Philippine Flag higher with their achievements at the prestigious Integrated Petroleum Festival (IPFEST) 2023 Smart Competition held in Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia on February 24. Led by their coach, Engr. Miguel Paulo B. Abas, Team Barrack Oil composed of Nick Audrei R. Manila, Selwyn M. Medrano, and Rhyan Antonio G. Evea emerged as champions, while the Team Trioil and Error consisted of John Carlo Doria, Marcus Gabriel A. Gutierrez, and Russel Vincent V. Manalo, respectively, clinched the 1st runner-up spot. Conquering the four stages of the competition including : Online Preliminary stage, Elimination stage, Semi Final, and Grand Final, the teams defeated several institutions from across Southeast Asia including teams from Indonesia and Algeria, which makes their victory even more astounding. “We are incredibly proud of our Red Spartans for their outstanding achievement at IPFEST 2023. We hope this victory inspires them to follow their passion and strive for excellence in their respective disciplines. Their achievement, which brought glory and pride to the country, serves as an inspiration to the entire Red Spartan community,” Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, the University president of BatStateU-The NEU remarked. This victory of BatStateU-The NEU students is a testimony to their unrelenting tenacity, extraordinary talent, and exceptional teamwork as well as to their capacity to raise the bar for the future of petroleum engineers. It once again proved its leading position in engineering education by providing quality education to produce top-notch petroleum engineering graduates who are future-ready and well-equipped to take on challenges in the world. Bearing the theme “Understanding the A to Z of Oil and Gas as A Strategy For Energy Transition,” this year’s Smart Competition is one of the main event of IPFEST 2023 which challenged the brightest minds from various universities across Southeast Asia to showcase their knowledge in the oil and gas industries by answering questions in a rally system and delivering their answers quickly and precisely.

CHED MEDICAL SCHOLARSHIP AND RETURN SERVICE PROGRAM
All students of the Batangas State University College of Medicine must apply for The CHED Medical Scholarship and Return Service (MSRS) program. This program was established under Republic Act (RA) No. 11509, otherwise known as the “Doktor Para Sa Bayan Act” to enable deserving students to pursue a degree in Doctor of Medicine. The MSRS program shall be accessible to qualified and deserving Filipino students who are willing to undertake the mandatory return service, preferably but not limited to those who are residing in municipality without government physicians, Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA) or from the top twenty (20%) provinces and/or municipalities as identified by the Philippine Statistics Authority , calamity-prone and conflict areas, low-income class municipalities with poverty incidence; belonging to the ethnic group or indigenous population/communities as certified by respective local government units and the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP), dependents of community health volunteers, and those whose combined annual family income of less than Php 450,000.00. Qualification for the MRSR Program A Filipino citizen residing in the Philippines who; Graduated from a baccalaureate program identified as a pre-requisite for a Doctor of Medicine degree, specifically from one of the following graduate programs: Nursing Physical Therapy Medical Technology Occupational Therapy Respiratory Therapy Speech-Language Pathology Nutrition and Dietetics Dental Medicine Radiologic Technology Public Health Optometry Biology Chemistry Is currently enrolled in Doctor of Medicine program; Complied with requirements for admission as well as the other requirements of the CHED; Obtained a National Medical Admission Test (NMAT) score of at least 70; Comes from a low income family; and Is willing to sign the Return of Service Agreement for the MSRS program. Documentary Requirements The minimum documentary requirements required at the time of application to the program are as follows: Proof of Filipino citizenship such as any government-issued document showing proof of Filipino citizenship, including, but not limited to certified true copy of Birth Certificate issued by the Local Civil Registry or Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Philsys ID; Certificate of Good Moral Character Additional requirements for priority groups (as applicable): Certification of Residency issued by the barangay; Certification as members of indigenous people or minority group / National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) certificate; Certification issued by the DOH-Bureau of Local Health Systems and Development that the applicant is a dependent of community health volunteer; and Certification from Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO) or Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) that the applicant is from a calamity-prone and conflict area. Latest Income Tax Return (ITR) of parents or guardian. In the case of identified priority groups, Tax Exemption or Tax Declaration from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) / Social Case Study duly signed by a registered Social Worker where the applicant resides; and Affidavit of no existing scholarship grant or Return Service Obligation. Financial Assistance The student financial assistance for the MSRS Program shall include the following as stipulated in Section 6 of the IRR: Free tuition and other school fees identified in Section 3(d) in the IRR Subsidy and allowances which shall be given to the scholars 1st to 4th year, as follows: Allowances Per Semester Per Academic Year Book Allowance 13,000 26,000 Clothing/Uniform Allowance 3,500 7,000 Miscellaneous Allowance 6,000 12,000 Living Subsidy 30,000 (5,000 x 6 mos.) 60,000 Lodging Allowance 30,000 (5,000 x 6 mos.) 60,000 Transportation Allowance 6,000 (1,000 x 6 mos.) 12,000 Total Php 88,500.00 Php177,000.00 Internship Program (5th year Medicine), as follows: Allowances Per Year Living Subsidy 60,000 Lodging Allowance 60,000 Transportation Allowance 12,000 One-time Board/Licensure Examination Review and Application Fees 16,000 Total Php 148,000.00 Enrollment to the following: National Health Insurance Program in the amount prescribed by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC) to be paid directly to PHIC quarterly by CHEDRO IV; and Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Accident Insurance to be paid directly to GSIS annually by concerned CHEDRO IV.
