BatStateU-The NEU unifies with Lingnan University to strengthen extension services through global partnership

Batangas State University, The National Engineering University (BatStateU-The NEU), and the Lingnan University of Hong Kong forged a partnership to strengthen their extension services programs and expand their reach into developing inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities. The collaboration is set to benefit various areas, including Barangay Talib Pandayan, Batangas City, and Talaibon, Ibaan, Batangas. Dr. NG Aik Min, Senior Project Officer -Office of Service at Lingnan University, visited BatStateU-The NEU on December 21, 2022. Welcomed by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), Dr. Min, and BatStateU-The NEU officials checked the office’s programs and its best practices. Brgy. Talahib Pandayan, Batangas City’s most disaster-prone area, was identified by CDRRMO as a primary recipient area. The two teams paid a visit to the community on December 22, 2023. Following a courtesy call at the Talahib Pandayan Brgy. Hall, the team conducted community exposure where they interviewed residents of Talahib Pandayan’s selected villages. They identified hazardous areas near coastal, lowland, and upland residences. Dr. Min listened carefully to the community’s difficulties and validated their concerns. Following the tour to Talahib Pandayan, the team traveled to Talaibon, Ibaan, Batangas, where Dr. Mandane-Garcia took Dr. Min to the residents’ “tinapahan” store. The store features a BatStateU extension project that teaches women to make tinapa for income generation. Locals enthusiastically accepted the visitors and demonstrated how they produce and sell tinapa. Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, President of BatStateU-TheNEU, met and toured Dr. Min at the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Environment Research (STEER) Hub. They also met Dr. Min’s colleague, Dr. Alber KO, through a Zoom meeting, where Dr. Ko highlighted his outstanding work and innovative efforts. He discussed his experience in mechanical engineering, artificial intelligence, and robotics. As part of his academic study, he created miniature robots for search and rescue. Dr. Ko and his team volunteered with MSF and the Red Cross as disaster relief and risk management volunteers for over ten years. Dr. Ko emphasized the goal of creating collaborations with other colleges to produce more programs on disaster relief, risk, and emergency management. He underscored the Lingnan Entrepreneurship Project, the Carbon Care Innolab, where they developed air purifiers as part of their efforts. These purifiers will be distributed to Hong Kong’s small residences, which are notably less typical in size. Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo commended Dr. Ko for Lingnan University’s significant accomplishments in Humanitarian Technology, stating that it aligns with BatStateU-The NEU’s mandate to develop technologies for humanity. Dr. Ronquillo also sealed BatStateU’s participation in Lingnan University’s upcoming incubation program. This partnership will undoubtedly strengthen the extension services programs of both universities and contribute to creating sustainable communities, ultimately leading to positive change.
Chinese delegates visit at BatStateU-The NEU marks a significant step in bolstering Philippines-China partnership

Delegates from China arrived at Batangas State University, The National Engineering University (BatStateU-The NEU) to explore new opportunities for cooperation in the field of technical vocational education, marking a significant step forward in the Philippines-China relationship. The Philippine-Sino Education and Technology Center organized the visit, which took place on February 9, 2023, with the goal of establishing the “Belt and Road” E-Commerce Valley Philippine International Cooperation Center. “As the National Engineering University that also excels in technology education and as the owner-developer of the country’s first Knowledge, Innovation, and Science Technology (KIST) Park, it will be mutually beneficial if we work in partnership for the promotion of the “Belt and Road” E-Commerce Valley Philippine International Cooperation Center and other exchanges between our countries for technical vocational education. The development and acceleration of digital skills and young entrepreneurs for an inclusive digital economy, through the Cooperation, we believe is critically important,” Vice President for Administration and Finance, Atty. Luzviminda C. Rosales shared. During the official visit, the Chinese delegates had the opportunity to meet with university officials and discuss the possible areas of collaboration while also getting a tour of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Environment Research (STEER) Hub and the first of its kind BatStateU KIST Park. Aimed at fostering cooperation that will be beneficial to both countries, the possible areas of cooperation focus on digital e-commerce research, faculty exchange, international business forums, seminars and workshops among students and faculty, and other academic collaboration on technical vocational education. This heralded a new age of Philippine-Chinese exchange and collaboration.
BatStateU-The NEU welcomes Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences

Dr. Peter Laszlo, a Rector’s representative of the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences paid a social visit to Batangas State University, The National Engineering University (BatStateU-The NEU) to discuss the possibility of collaborations on academic, research and extension, February 3. The delegation was led by Dr. Laszlo and Ms. Anna Ramilo, Executive Assistant to the Head of the Commercial Section Embassy of Hungary Manila, and was cordially welcomed by University President, Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo. During their visit, they held discussions with Atty. Noel Alberto S. Omandap, Vice President for Development and External Affairs, Dr. Teodorica G. Ani, Director of External Affairs, accompanied by BatStateU Lobo Director Dr. Romel U. Briones, and Director of Research, Dr. Rosenda A. Bronce. They exchanged viewpoints and concepts for future research partnerships in organic farming, food processing, irrigation, and technology transfer. Scholarships for faculty members were also discussed in furthering the University’s goals of providing high-quality education and cutting-edge research opportunities. “This visit has created the groundwork for a long-term and mutually beneficial partnership that will pave the way for greater advancements in the field of agriculture and education in the Philippines,” Dr. Ronquillo said.
BSRU of Thailand visits BatStateU-The NEU to establish academic ties in research, community services, cultural sharing, and student and faculty exchange

Batangas State University, The National Engineering University (BatStateU-The NEU) further strengthened its commitment to internationalization after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University (BSRU) on January 9. BSRU is a public higher educational institution which is among the top 60 universities in Thailand. It offers a wide range of undergraduate degree programs under its six faculties: Science and Technology, Education, Management Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Music, Engineering and Industrial Technology. Additionally, this institution provides 14 Master’s and seven Ph.D. degree programs, as well as a Graduate Diploma program for Teacher Training. BatStateU-The NEU President Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo and BSRU President Dr. Linda Gainma led the ceremonial MoU signing, which symbolizes the partnership between the two universities in academic collaboration. These include the conduct of academic, research, and community services; the development of joint research, publication, seminar, and conference; the exchange of faculty members, staff members, and students for both short and long terms; and the conduct of cultural activities. This initiative is aligned with the attainment of Sustainable Development Goals particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). “I am delighted about this partnership as it will bring visibility, credibility and prestige to an initiative. I know that it will demonstrate a strong commitment towards ensuring students and staff access to mentorship, experiential learning, equity, inclusivity and even exposure to new challenges and perspectives, and this is something I am truly excited about,” Dr. Ronquillo articulated. Both Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) set out to establish an institute of learning for teacher and human development towards producing communicative, skillful, and multicultural-trained graduates. In parallel, BatStateU-The NEU and BSRU agreed to conduct collaborative research projects among faculty, engage in Student Visits and Exchange and Teaching Internship Exchange, and hold webinars/seminars and training to empower and inspire the next generation of leaders, to improve the lives of professionals and to serve as stewards of the best practices in teacher education program. BatStateU-The NEU is also open to exploring other prospective opportunities with BSRU in other relevant projects and initiatives that will enhance the education of their students, increase research accomplishments, broaden the knowledge base of their faculty, and promote mutual understanding and enlightenment of the people of their respective countries. BatStateU-The NEU enters 2022 UI GreenMetric World University rankings

As evidence of its strong commitment to contribute to a more sustainable world, the Batangas State University (BatStateU), The National Engineering University (NEU) was hailed as the 351st World’s Most Sustainable University in the 2022 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, and 4th in the country. As a first-time participant in the said ranking, BatStateU-The NEU successfully garnered 6,760 points from 39 indicators in six different criteria namely: energy and climate, waste, water, transportation, and education and research through the university’s sustainability commitment and initiatives, where the university ranked 168th in the world in the area of education and research. Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, University President, thanked all members of the university for their collective actions towards sustainability, especially the task force which initiated the collection and submission of the required data to the UI GreenMetric portal. Recently, the university further made its sustainability efforts more robust by establishing the Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) to ensure that sustainability is an essential component of the university’s core duties of instruction, research, innovation, and extension services, as well as its general administrative and general support services functions. As part of the abovementioned efforts, the university likewise designated Sustainability Development Officers (SDOs) per constituent campuses to ensure that the programs, projects, and activities (PPAs) on a campus level are aligned with the SDGs, and approved the University Policy Guidelines for the Attainment of Sustainable Development Goals by virtue of Board Resolution No. 136, s. 2022. With the theme “Collective Actions for Transforming Sustainable Universities in the Post-Pandemic Time,” the UI GreenMetric was participated by 1050 higher education institutions (HEIs) across the globe, and focuses on higher education’s efforts to continue their sustainability programs and policies based on sustainable development goals (SDGs) while preparing for teaching, learning, and research in post-pandemic COVID-19. Developed since 2010 by the University of Indonesia, UI GreenMetric is the first ranking in the World that has established a Voluntary Standard for improving university infrastructure and action towards sustainable universities worldwide. Fuji Haya Electric Corp. seals a scholarship partnership with BatStateU-The NEU

On November 24, 2022, Fuji Haya Electric Corporation sealed a scholarship partnership with Batangas State University, The National Engineering University (BatStateU-The NEU). Headed by BatStateU-The NEU President, Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, together with the Managing Director of Fuji-Haya Electric Corporation, Mr. Yu Hi Kian, the partnership focuses on giving scholarships to deserving students of the University. In his welcome remarks, Dr. Ronquillo praised the officials of Fuji-Haya Electric Corporation for the initiative of giving assistance to the students of his beloved university. “The scholarship that you will provide is a great help to our students not just in terms of financial assistance but an inspiration and motivation to learn more, knowing that there is an institution who is willing to support their educational needs”, Dr. Ronquillo added. He also thanked Fuji-Haya Electric Corporation in accommodating the students of BatStateU in terms of immersion, training, seminars, and internship and encouraged both parties to explore more aspects of collaborations such as cooperative learning opportunities which will mutually benefit the two institutions. Extremely delighted in the said partnership, Mr. Yu Hi Kian further expressed his gratitude to BatStateU-The NEU for making the collaboration possible. He said that the bind will pave way for more possible opportunities to be opened to BatStateU students. He was amazed about the programs offered by the University which he believes promotes dynamism, innovation, and technological development in our country. BatStateU-The NEU celebrates International Students’ Day

“Kami ngay-on eh naririne! Pak Gay-on! Barako kami!” is what the International students chanted during the celebration of the International Students’ Day on November 24, 2022 at Batangas State University, The National Engineering University, Pablo Borbon Campus. Organized by the External Affairs Office – Central in cooperation with College of Teacher Education (CTE) and College of Accountancy, Business, Economics and International Hospitality Management (CABEIHM), the activity is part of the PROJECT PINOY initiative which aimed to promote the Filipino / Batangas language and culture to the international students of Batangas State University to have an in-depth knowledge on the traditions, tourist destinations, and dishes offered by the province of Batangas. Dr. Teodorica G. Ani, Director of External Affairs-Central warmly welcomed the international students of the University and expressed her gratitude to them as they participated well in the activity. She shared that this is already the second leg of the planned affair for the international students. On the other hand, Ms. Maribel A. Gutierrez, On-the-Job Coordinator and one of the Filipino Lecturers from CTE presented some Filipino traditions like “pagmamano” and the common Batangueño words and phrases that the international students might add to their vocabulary while staying here in Batangas. Also part of the activity was the presentation of Batangas Pride in terms of dishes and destinations. Mr. Brent Roi Gutierrez from CABEIHM showcased the different Batangas scrumptious dishes and picturesque tourist spots which the international students might try to take and plan to visit in their spare time. Some of these are Mt. Maculot, Mt. Batulao, Taal Lake, Caleruega Chapel, Sombrero Island, and Fortune Island in Nasugbu where the International students look forward to tour and explore. “I am very delighted to witness such activity. I hope that more of these kinds of activities will be organized” Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Charmaine Rose I. Triviño said during her closing remarks. She also conveyed that their office, the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, is very much open for any concerns and they are willing to extend their help as much as they can. More of these activities will be organized and hosted by the External Affairs-Central as part of their continuous initiative to give the international students more information about Batangas and Filipino cultures and traditions and to make their stay at the University worthwhile.
Indian Maritime University and BatStateU-The NEU seals partnership to strengthen academic cooperation in various marine-related programs

BATANGAS CITY – Batangas State University (BatStateU), The Philippines’ National Engineering University further expands its international linkages as it seals partnership with the Indian Maritime University (IMU) to strengthen academic cooperation in various marine-related programs on November 9, 2022. Initiated by the Embassy of India to the Philippines led by His Excellency Shambhu S. Kumaran, the partnership between the two Universities was formalized through the Ceremonial Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU concretized the strong commitment of BatStateU-The NEU and IMU to work collaboratively and establish academic cooperation through academic exchanges, collaborative research projects, co-hosting of conferences, and other mutually beneficial activities in the areas of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, Port Management, and Marine Biodiversity. BatStateU-The NEU President, Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo warmly welcomed everyone on the ceremony and expressed his enthusiasm about the possible collaboration between the two universities. He hoped that IMU will work co-actively with BatStateU pertaining on research protection, conservation and strategic management of the marine biodiversity in the Verde Island Passage (VIP) as one of the legal mandates of BatStateU as the National Engineering University. Dr. Ronquillo also extended his message of gratitude to H.E Shambhu S. Kumaran, Ambassador of India to the Philippines, for always bringing new and numerous opportunities to the University. BatStateU-The NEU, as the Philippine’s largest provider of engineering education recently offered BS in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering as one of the emerging engineering programs. All these, coupled with the University’s firm commitment to protect, conserve, and strategically manage the marine biodiversity in the Verde Island Passage (VIP) are seen instrumental by the institution to successfully develop professional graduates ready for entry as active participants and competent leaders in the industrialized world. Vice Chancellor of Indian Maritime University, Dr. Malini V. Shankar, I.A.S. (Retd.) conveyed through a video message her gratefulness to BatStateU and Embassy of India to the Philippines for making the partnership possible. “I wish that this MoU becomes a building block for our engagement in the international community especially in the Asian region and thereby promote South-South cooperation”, she added. IMU is a central university in India which deals with a wide range of topics related to the sea which is intended to fulfill the requirements of the Maritime Sector of India. Composed of six campuses, IMU is poised to play a key role in the development of trained human resources for the maritime sector. “I am looking forward that this partnership will be reinforced as soon as possible. We will help to facilitate and promote maritime stud ies, trainings, research and extension work focusing on emerging areas of studies like oceanography, maritime history and laws, security and other related fields. ”,as H.E. ULille visits BatStateU to bolster int’l academic and research collaboration in Engineering and Technology

BATANGAS CITY – Batangas State University (BatStateU) further widens its international linkages and partnerships after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with University of Lille (ULille), France to strengthen academic and research collaboration on June 29. Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, BatStateU, The National Engineering University President led the ceremony at BatStateU-Central Board Room during the visit of ULille delegates in the Philippines. Their visit aims to foster knowledge sharing through engagement and exchange of good practices in engineering education. The University of Lille (ULille) is a scientific, cultural and professional public institution based in Lille, Hauts-de-France. With more than 76,000 students, it is one of the largest universities in France and one of the prime universities in the research community. The MOU covers academic cooperation through faculty and student exchange for the purpose of engaging in teaching, consulting, research and education, collaborative research projects, and other mutually beneficial activities. “We are very delighted to have the University of Lille delegation as the first university to visit us physically for academic cooperation after BatStateU has been declared as The National Engineering University. I would like to see the two universities collaborating for the improvement of our engineering education specifically in the field of electronics”, Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo said.
